How to stop Facebook from Tracking your Location on Android

Facebook's data gathering problems and its extraction of users' personal information have kept it in the spotlight for a while. As of now, the social media behemoth has not succeeded in clarifying its position, but it has been intermittently releasing innovative features linked to data security to do so.

To protect users' privacy, Facebook has introduced a new setting for Android that disables geolocation data while the app is not in use.

Your Android device's Facebook will no longer collect location data without your permission

After news of a Facebook security team using geolocation data to find missing interns spread, this turn of events happened. The internet erupted in flames and panic after this news. Giving an Android app access to your location is all or nothing; on the other hand, banning the app entirely blocks it. In exchange for access to your location, applications ask permission to use it but don't give you a choice to reveal if they will use it.

Allowing an app to access your location can now be approved or disapproved with the flip of a switch. On the iPhone, however, users are already able to choose whether or not an app can use their location in the background, so Apple has no plans to roll out this feature. However, Facebook will notify Android and iOS users via location settings so they can monitor the extent to which their location is being used.

When you are not logged into Facebook, you can prevent the app from tracking your location on Android by following these steps

Here's what you're doing:
  • Get on Facebook using any Android device.
  • If a notification similar to the one shown above appears, select "Manage Settings."
  • Turn off geographical settings in the background.

If you have not received the update yet, it could be propagating. Even if you don't share your location with Facebook, you can prevent the app from tracking your phone's position at any time.

To do this,
  • Look for an options cog in the upper right corner and tap it. This shape resembles three horizontal bars piled on top of one another.
  • Choose the Private and Preferences menus.
  • Click on individual instant links.
  • From the list that appears, select Settings | Geography | Customize.
  • Do not follow my movements again.

Tough At the same time, Facebook is attempting to prevent the app from monitoring users' whereabouts while experimenting with location services through Instagram, which can reveal the user's desired target.
